Food, Booze and Reviews…News

Autumn seems to be well underway with this week seeing me bring out the winter coat for the first time. This is both a good and bad thing. Summer is past and soon we will not see the sun for a good 6 months or so; but on the plus side comfort food is back on the menu.

The change in seasons has not affected the local food scene, with more openings and events taking place all over Brighton and beyond. With that in mind it is time for another edition of Food, Booze and Reviews…News.

Worthing Beer Festival

Those glorious words have been joined together in unholy matrimony to form the joyous union of beer festival. This weekend sees the 20th annual CAMRA Real Ale and Cider festival taking place at The Assembly Hall in Worthing. On both Friday and Saturday, real ale and cider fans can enjoy a vast array of delicious beverages over the course of four different “sessions”. Tickets for each session cost just £5 or £2 for the Saturday evening, which I will be attending, and include a free glass and programme. There will also be a fantastic choice of food vendors serving up pies, pasties and pastrami to help soak up all that glorious booze.

Bison to Bristol film Screening

If real ale is not your thing and you prefer your beer just a little bit more crafty then this Saturday could have the event for you. Celebrating their recent Brighton to Bristol cycle ride, the Bison Beer team are hosting a special screening of their film documenting the ride. Not only that you will also get to sample their collaboration brew with Bristol’s Good Chemistry that has been created specially for the Bison Arms. The Ryed with Us IPA comes in at an impressive 6.3% and there will be food from Brighton trailblazers 64 Degrees. The short film will be followed by a screening of 80’s BMX film “Rad” with rumours of a themed drinking game being circulated.

Tickets for the event cost just £10 with all proceeds going to the Cedar Centre School who were recently the victims of theft. The charity, a special needs school, sadly had a number of their bikes stolen whilst the Bison2Bristol ride was taking place and so it is hoped that this event will help to raised some much needed funds.

This chain of coffee shops have become one of the stars of Brighton’s independent food and drink scene and opening a branch in Worthing signals a positive step for the town. I will be heading along during the week to help celebrate the opening of the new shop, poor me, and to check out their new digs.

The new shop is located at 14-16 Portland Road, BN11 1QN and you can read all about Small Batch and their awesome coffee on their website by following this link.
